Hardwood flooring has a long life and natural beauty. Suitable throughout the
house, wood flooring is typically available in strip flooring of 2 1/4" boards and
plank flooring that is 3 1/4" wide or wider. Hardwoods are also available as
parquet flooring in pattern like squares and in wider boards. Hardwoods come
as either solid 3/4" or 5/16" thick boards or 3/8" engineered laminated boards.

Solid wood flooring is available either pre-finished or unfinished giving you
an unlimited selection of coloring and species of woods. Solid wood flooring
is installed by either nailing or stapling, depending on the thickness of the
wood.

Engineered flooring consists of two or more layers of wood laminated together.
The top layer or wear layer is usually a hardwood veneer of varying thickness,
while the lower layer provides a softwood backing. Most engineered wood floors
are glued or stapled down. Some are installed as "floating floors" and the edges
of the panels are glued together and not directly attached to the subfloor. These
floors can be installed on concrete or typical subfloors.
